Kannada Typing Online ಕನ್ನಡ

Type Kannada in the Kannada script for free, right in your browser. Type words the way they sound in English letters (namaskAra kannaDa becomes ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ ಕನ್ನಡ), or use the government-standard InScript layout. There is nothing to install, and your text never leaves your device.

How to type in Kannada

1. The editor above is already set to Kannada. Click in it and start typing.
2. Phonetic: spell each word as it sounds. The whole word is redrawn as you type, so namaskAra turns into ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ letter by letter.
3. InScript: if you learned the standard Indian keyboard, switch to InScript and type Kannada letters directly.
4. Press F9 to switch between Kannada and English without leaving the editor.
5. Copy the text, or save it as Word (.docx), plain text or a web page.

Kannada typing examples

Tips

• Capitals type the long and retroflex sounds: A I U E O, T D N L Sh.
• M types the anusvara, H the visarga, and .h an explicit virama.
• Use _ to stop two letters from joining.
• Open the Keys panel to see every Kannada letter and the keys that type it. Tap a letter to insert it, which also helps on phones.
• Turn on native digits to type ೧೨೩ instead of 123.
